Branding and UI/UX Design for Small Businesses
A clear brand and an easy-to-use website make a small business look established and make it easy to book, buy or get in touch. We design logos, brand guidelines and website and app interfaces built around what your customers need to do.
Look Established, and Make It Easy to Get in Touch
Branding and UI/UX design decide if a stranger trusts you, and they do it before anyone’s read a word. Picture two plumbers in Leeds. One has a tidy logo, a van that matches the website and a booking button where you’d expect it. The other’s better at the job, but he’s got a clip-art logo and a contact form buried three clicks deep. Guess who gets the call. We see this every month in client analytics: same service, same price, very different enquiry rates.

What branding and UI/UX design covers for a small business
Branding’s the bit people remember. Logo, colours, fonts, how you talk. UI/UX design is the bit they use. Where things sit on your site or app, what they tap first, how many steps it takes to book or buy or ring you. Most small firms pay for one and skip the other. That’s how you end up with gorgeous sites nobody can find their way round, or easy ones that look like every other template going.
We do both under one roof, so the logo on your invoice, the colours on your Instagram and the buttons on your checkout come from the same set of decisions.
Branding for small businesses that need to look established
Good branding for small businesses is not about a clever logo. It is about looking consistent everywhere a customer meets you. A typical brand pack from us includes:
- A logo in every format your printer, signwriter and web developer will ask for
- A colour palette and two fonts, with rules for when to use each
- Business card, letterhead and invoice layouts
- Social templates in Canva that you can change yourself
- A brand guideline PDF of 8 to 12 pages or so. Not a 60-page manual that sits unopened in a drawer
UI/UX design that gets more bookings and calls
On the website side we start with the one action that pays your bills. For a clinic that is a booking. For a trade business it is a phone call. For a shop it is a finished checkout. Every page is laid out so that action is one tap away on a phone, because that is where most of your visitors are.
We design for people who struggle with screens, too. Text big enough to read, proper contrast, forms you can fill in with just a keyboard. We work to the W3C accessibility guidelines (WCAG). Handy side effect: they tend to help your Google rankings too.
You test a prototype before anything is built
Before a developer writes any code, you get a clickable Figma prototype on your phone. Tap through it, show it to two or three regular customers, and tell us what confused them. Changing a design at this stage costs an hour. Changing a finished website costs days.
Branding and UI/UX design mistakes we fix most often
Most of the small business sites we are asked to redesign have the same handful of problems. None of them need a big budget to fix, but all of them cost enquiries every week they stay.
A logo that falls apart when it gets small
A fiddly logo looks lovely on a laptop. Shrink it to a browser tab or a WhatsApp profile picture, or stitch it on a polo shirt, and it’s a smudge. Good branding for small businesses includes a simplified version for small sizes. We test every logo at 32 pixels before we hand it over.
Five colours where two would do
When every button is a different colour, customers cannot tell which one matters. Part of branding and UI/UX design is deciding that one colour means “act now” and using it for nothing else. Book, buy, call: same colour, every page.
The phone number hidden in the footer
For trades and clinics the phone is still where the money comes from. If a mobile visitor has to scroll to the bottom to find your number, a share of them will not bother. We put tap-to-call in the header on mobile for every local service business we work with.
Forms that ask for too much
A quote form asking for company size, budget, postcode and how you heard about us before a visitor has even decided to talk to you will lose most of them. We cut first-contact forms down to name, phone or email and one question. You can ask the rest on the call.
Branding and UI/UX design for different kinds of business
A bakery and an accountancy firm should not end up with the same website with the colours swapped. The job each site has to do is different, so the design decisions are different too.
Trades and home services
Electricians, plumbers, roofers and cleaners get most of their work from people searching on a phone, often in a hurry. The branding has to hold up on a van door and a hi-vis jacket, not only on a screen. And the website needs three things above the fold. What you do, where you cover, and a button to ring you. Right under that go your reviews and badges like Gas Safe or NICEIC.
Clinics, salons and appointment businesses
Here the money is in the booking flow. Branding and UI/UX design for a clinic or salon is about looking calm and trustworthy, and about booking in under a minute. Treatment, time, done. It hooks into whatever booking tool you’ve already got. Fresha, Cliniko, Calendly, or something built into your own site.
Shops and ecommerce brands
With an online shop, the branding is in how the product photos look, the packaging, and how the descriptions sound. The UI/UX side is mainly getting people from product page to paid order. Show the price with delivery included. Put trust badges by the button. Don’t make anyone create an account just to pay. Small improvements here move revenue more than a new logo ever will.
B2B firms and consultancies
B2B buyers are different. They read more, and they take their time. Branding and UI/UX design for a consultancy leans on case studies and clear service pages. You also need a way in for someone who isn’t ready to talk yet, like a price guide they can download. Quieter look. The proof does the selling.
Whatever your sector, the same rule applies: we design around what your customer needs to do next, and branding for small businesses should support that rather than get in the way.
Why choose Devsio as your UI/UX design agency
- Fixed price. Quoted after a 30-minute discovery call, so the budget does not creep.
- Agreed revision rounds. Written into the proposal, so you know exactly how many changes each stage includes.
- You own everything. Every logo file and the Figma source files are yours, not locked in our account.
- Design and build in one team. The people who design your pages also build them, so nothing gets lost in a handover.
If you are comparing a UI/UX design agency with a freelancer, ask both who will build the website afterwards. With us the answer is the same team, which is why the finished site matches the design you signed off. That is also why our branding and UI/UX design projects rarely need a second round of fixes after launch.
How we measure whether the design worked
Pretty is not a result. Before we start, we agree two or three numbers that matter to you, such as calls from the website, completed bookings or checkout completion rate, and we note where they are today. Four to eight weeks after launch we look at the same numbers again and tell you honestly what moved. Branding and UI/UX design should pay for itself in enquiries. If a page isn’t pulling its weight, we’d rather fix it than bury it.
Then there’s the boring stuff that loses you customers without anyone noticing. Pages that crawl on 4G. Buttons too small for a thumb. Text you can’t read in the sun. You won’t spot any of that on a big office monitor, so every branding and UI/UX design project gets checked on a mid-range Android phone before sign-off.
One more thing we check that most studios skip: the email signature, the WhatsApp Business profile and the Google Business Profile photos. Customers see those far more often than your About page. If the logo there is blurry or last year’s version, fix it in the same week you launch. It takes ten minutes and nobody else will think to do it.
How much branding and UI/UX design costs
Price depends on scope. A logo and brand pack on its own is the smallest project. A logo plus a full website design takes longer and costs more, and a mobile app design sits at the top. After the discovery call you get a fixed quote. Our pricing page shows typical starting points. Only need a refresh? Tell us. Keeping what already works is often cheaper, and usually the smarter call anyway.
What we need from you to start
Very little. Send over your current logo if you’ve got one. Add links to two or three competitors you think look good, and a rough idea of who your best customers are. Got Google Analytics or a booking system? Read-only access lets us see where people are dropping off now. That is enough for a first branding and UI/UX design workshop, which usually takes about an hour on a video call.
Most projects run for three to six weeks from that call to handover. A logo and brand pack alone can be done in two to three weeks. A full website design depends on how many page types you need, not how many pages. Forty service pages built off one template take no longer to design than five.
