How Much Does a Website Cost in the UK? (2026 Guide)

A small business website in the UK usually costs anywhere from a few hundred pounds to well over £10,000. That range is so wide it's almost useless, so this guide breaks website design cost in the UK into the choices that actually move the price, what you should expect to pay after launch, and how to tell a fair quote from one that will cost you more later.

Typical website costs in the UK by type

These are typical ranges from what UK small businesses are quoted. Your figure depends on scope, but most quotes land in one of these bands.

Team sketching website wireframes and sticky notes, the planning that decides website design cost

  • DIY website builder: roughly £10 to £40 a month, plus your own time to set it up and write it.
  • Freelancer-built brochure site (5 to 10 pages): often £500 to £2,500.
  • Small agency, custom design with SEO setup: often £2,000 to £8,000.
  • Ecommerce store with WooCommerce or Shopify: often £3,000 to £15,000 or more, depending on products and integrations.

What decides your website design cost

Number of pages and who writes them
Ten pages written by you costs far less than ten pages planned and written for search by someone else. Copywriting is often the biggest hidden difference between two quotes.

Features that do real work
Online booking, payments, quote calculators, member areas and connections to your CRM or accounts software each add cost. They're usually worth it when they save staff time or bring in sales directly.

UK legal requirements
A UK business site needs a privacy policy and, if it uses analytics or marketing cookies, a working cookie consent banner under UK GDPR and PECR. Some cheap quotes leave this out. Our guide to cookie consent for small businesses explains what's needed.

Template or bespoke design
A well-chosen template, adapted to your brand, can look professional for much less than a bespoke design. Bespoke pays off when you need a structure templates can't handle. We compare both in bespoke website vs template.

What a website costs after launch

We go into running costs in more detail in website maintenance costs in the UK.

Business owner checking website quotes with a calculator and laptop before choosing a developer

  • Domain name: usually around £10 to £20 a year for a .co.uk or .com.
  • Hosting: roughly £5 to £30 a month for a small business site.
  • Maintenance: updates, backups and security checks, either done in-house or on a monthly plan.
  • SEO or ads: optional, but this is what brings visitors once the site exists.

How to tell a fair quote from a risky one

  • It lists every page and feature in writing, not just "a 5-page website".
  • It says who owns the domain, hosting account and code. The answer should be you.
  • It includes basic SEO setup: page titles, descriptions, a sitemap and Search Console.
  • It states what support you get after launch and what changes cost later.

What Devsio charges UK small businesses

Our small business websites start from $399 and usually take three to five weeks, with a written scope and one fixed price split into milestones. That includes cookie consent, basic SEO setup and 30 days of support after launch. Because our team is based in Pakistan, we can price below most UK agencies while working in your hours: we're four to five hours ahead of London. See our pricing page or our web design for UK small businesses page, and book a free call if you'd like a fixed quote.
